REGULATIONS CONCERNING THE PRACTICE OF MEDICINE
FOR ALIENS IN THAILAND
REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSURE
In accordance with section 30 of the Medical Act B.E. 2525 (1982), the license to practice Medicine in Thailand shall be granted to aliens, if they:
1. are member of the Medical Council. To be eligible for admission as a member of the Council, the person must possess the following qualifications:-
a. not less than twenty (20) years of age.
b. possesses a medical degree or certificate which is approved by the Medical Council.
c. possesses no record of misconduct which is considered by the Medical Council as a dishonour to the profession.
d. has never been sentenced to imprisonment by committing a crime which is considered by the Medical Council as a dishonour to the profession.
e. is not suffering from a mental disorder or other disease (s) considered by the Medical Council as unfit for the practice of Medicine.
2. furnishes, in a manner satisfactory to the Medical Council, a diploma or certificate from a reputable institution recognized by the Medical Council and a license to practice Medicine in the country he or she has completed the course of medical edcucation.
3. has successfully passed the Examination conducted by the Medical Licensing Board.
THE LICENSING EXAMINATION
The examination has three parts :-
Part 1 - Multiple Choice Questions in Basic Medical Science.
Part 2 - Multiple Choice Questions in Clinical Science.
Part 3 - Objective Structure
Clinical Examination (OSCE)
An applicant has to pass both part 1 and part 2 before he or she is eligible to take part 3
REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH PART
Part 1
1. passed Pre-clinical course from institution recognized by the Medical Council.
Part 2 and Part 3
1.
completed the course of medical education.
2.
posseses a medical degree, diploma or certificate from the institution recognized by the Medical Council and a license to practise Medicine in the country he or she has completed the course of medical education.
Date of Examination
Part 1 Part 2 and Part 3 shall be held twice a year in March and October.
FILLING THE APPLICATION
1.
FOR MEMBERSHIP OF THE MEDICAL COUNCIL
The applicant shall fill an application for the membership on a provided form.
The application form duly filled must be accompanied by:-
a.
the original diploma or certificate, together with a photocopy of his qualification. If the document is not in English, a certified translation is required.
b.
two recent photos (4X5 cm.) of the applicant..
c.
One photocopy of the household registration (Residence certificate) from the Ministry of Interior, Thailand.
d. the original health certificate.
2.
FOR LICENSING EXAMINATION
The applicant shall fill an application form provided by the Medical council.
The application form duly filled must be reached the Medical Council not later than January or August and accompanied by :-
a.
the transcript of pre-clinical courses (for Part 1)
b.
the original diploma or certificate, together with a photocopy of
his qualification (for Part 2 and Part 3).
c.
the original household registration (Residence certificate) from the Ministry of Interior, Thailand, together with a photocopy.
d.
four recent photos (4X5 cm.) of the applicant.
e.
one photocopy of unexpired I.D. card or passport,
f.
the orginal license to pracitce medicine from the country where
he or she completed his or her medical education, together with a photocopy.
g.
the original health certificate from the government hospital and
one photocopy.
If the documents are not in English, a certified translation is required.
ADMISSION TO EAMINATION
1.
The medical Licensing Board of the Medical Council reserves the right to make additional investigations of the education, character and standing of the applicant.
2.
The Secretary-General of the Medical Council will inform the applicant if he or she is eligible for the Examination.
Informations regarding the date, place, and subjects of the Examination shall be sent to eligible applicants.
3.
The Examination is conducted in Thai.

THE EXAMINATION FEE
Part 1 and 2 = 3,000 Baht each
Part 3 = 5,000 Baht
REMARKS
1.
Application will be rejected if the original documents have not been shown.
2.
The applicant have to certify each photoscopy by signing his or her name on it.
3.
The applicant pays the examination fee for the part that he is eligible to take.
4.
The Medical Council reserves the right to change the examination fee without notice.
5.
The examination fee shall not be refund in any case.
